Module 4 · Other rules and enforcement
Enforcement and your part
Lesson 12 of 12 · about 1 minutes
Local authorities enforce labelling rules. In England, county and district councils share this work. In Scotland, local authorities use a risk-based approach. In Northern Ireland, district councils are responsible.
Officers can give advice and can serve an improvement notice. Failure to comply with allergen labelling rules is a criminal offence and may lead to prosecution. The FSA's technical guidance for England, Wales and Northern Ireland warns of a potentially unlimited fine.
Due diligence means taking all reasonable precautions. Your recipes, supplier specifications, label approvals and training records all help to show this.
No law requires a specific certificate. Your employer decides what training your role needs. This course gives you a private certificate of completion. It does not make a business compliant by itself. Your daily care does more: check the label, follow the recipe and speak up when something changes.
